This museum is located in the former Mater Dolorosa Church in Independence, La. Inside this beautiful 111 yr. old building, you will find vintage photos, artifacts, antiques and family history relating to Italian/Sicilian families in Independence and surrounding areas.
The Independence Italian Cultural Museum is one of only two places (Independence, Louisiana and New York City) in the U.S.A. where the beautiful Sicilian Language is being learned and spoken once again within this beautiful architectural gem of a building which once served as Mater Dolorosa Church.
